Are Boys Really Messier & Wilder Than Girls?

You know, I hate to generalize and I prefer to empower young girls to do and be anything that their hearts desire. I think when we generalize, we do put limits on both boys and girls, but here's something I'm wondering...

Are boys really messier and wilder than girls?

Or is it just my kids? ;-) From what I've observed, toddler and preschool-aged boys tend to be quite rowdy and a bit more difficult to manage than girls. The girls tend to be much more calm and prefer quieter activities. Of course, that all changes when the girls get around my boys - then they turn into wild beasts themselves and my darling niece is no exception!

(Side note: I'm not complaining about having boys. I will be thanking my lucky stars when the teenage years come, that's for sure!)

Anyway, what's your opinion on this boy/girl thing? I am just exhausted from a crazy Christmas weekend and NEED to know!

I have two boys and two girls (although the youngest is still a baby, so it's not a perfectly scientific experiment LOL!) and I think boys are just more PHYSICAL in general. Now my oldest daughter is quite a handful, that's her temperament. Even still, boys tend to react physically. They seem more likely to get hyper, or to hit someone if they're mad. My daughter will just scream...so you could say she's more verbal. Messy? I don't know yet. Ask me again in 10 years. :)

I just had to update this as I look at my 4 year old son today LOL.
His hair is *everywhere*, his hands are always sticky with plenty of dirt under the nails, his pants covered with mud/grass and his shirt littered with crumbs of brownies. I still have to remind my 7 year old to remove the crust from his eyes in the morning. My daughter has the wild hair but she never seems to get as dirty as the boys :)

Thanks for that reassurance, Carrie. My boys always have dirty fingernails. I'm always asking them, "What have you been doing, gardening? I hope you pulled the weeds in the front yard!"

My youngest is extremely messy (maybe beyond the regular "boy" thing). At preschool, they gave him some Cheerios as a little snack and you couldn't believe how he got it on his shirt, hands and face. His teacher said, "Leave it to Nathan to make clean food messy."
