Mama WAnts to Pull Her Hair Out

My boys need naps, especially the youngest, or they're a wreck by dinnertime. I CANNOT get them to take a nap anymore. I've spent hours trying to get them to sleep. I've read stories, sung songs, lied down with them and eventually lost my temper. Nothing worked.

They used to nap without problem, but since Nathan moved out of the crib, it's been completely impossible. And even though Nathan has moved out of the crib, he goes to bed at night-time usually without any problem. So what's the deal with the naps?

How do you get your kids to nap?

I feel you girl! My daughter (3 in February) gave up her nap shortly after the baby was born. I eventually came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the effort to try to get her to sleep. My boys were older when they gave up their naps, and this is a very challenging age. I do need a break from her! I cope with two things:
1) Enforced Quiet Time and
2) Enforced Outdoor Time

I know that might make me sound like a prison warden but with 4, you do what you gotta do lol!
The boys know that they can read quietly on the couch for a bit while I have a cup of tea or just sit and make googoo eyes at the baby. At some point every day I kick them outside and put a timer on the front porch. ;)
As long as the weather is nice that is. They love to play outside so it's not a problem. I've noticed that Ilana will fall asleep in the van if we're running errands at 11 or 12. If I'm having a stressful day with her, I load them all up, drive to Starbucks, sip my coffee and drive while they listen to an audiobook. That way I get a little break. Driving is relaxing...there's noone pulling at me. :)
Hth!

Lay him down in his crib. lol. I'm still in that easy phase where he likes his naps and is so willing to take his nap that he will run to his crib and try to climb in :)

Yeah, we had to get rid of the crib because he was jumping out and in when he felt like it.

Of course, every mommy needs a break, but that's not why I'm concerned. Nathan and Malcolm will play quietly in their room and give me a breather. But if Nathan doesn't have a nap he's a wreck by 5. He cries about everything...wants something, but can't tell you what...poor little guy.

OMG, I could have written this exact post. Madisyn has recently given up naps and you can't touch her with a ten foot pole in the evenings. Hubby jokes and says oh its so good to be home to see her throw fits. LOL! Sometimes I can coax her into taking a nap or she will nap when we are out and about.

Not sure why I wrote this post, I guess just to let you know you are not alone. Madisyn will be three in a week and half. So, it may be the age.

I know IF my son doesn't get a nap he's a huge grouch the rest of the night so I feel for you ;)

Hi Alice! Yep, I know that problem. I have a two year old. Lately I've been "bribing" him - "Take your nap now, and we can go outside later. Or you can watch Thomas when you wake up. So far - it seems to be working - knock on wood!"
