Swimsuit Summer

I dread going shopping for a new bathing suit. First of all they're expensive. Secondly, shopping for a swimsuit in the plus size department is an exersize in humility.

You pass by all the cute brightly printed suits and bikinis in the misses section and try not to even look at them becuase you know that the 'womans' size bathing suits are all black and dark blue or if they do have a print, it's some ridiculous print - usually in black and dark blue.

After all, we don't want to see Big Momma in a flashy orange hisbiscus print do we?

I have only bought two new bathings suits in all my years as a Mom. Mainly becuase I hate the shopping experience and since I hate being seen in a swim suit period - they tend to last me a long time.

I've tried hard to not let my weight or self image issues stand between me and enjoying summer with my son. Kids love the water and it would be a shame for them to miss out on the beach just becuase Mom hates what she looks like in a bathing suit!

What kind of bathing suit will you be wearing this summer?

I hate shopping for a bathing suit... I think this is something a lot of women dread no matter what their size.

There's no where to hide in a bathing suit! So every single imperfection is out there for everyone to see...

I'm not ready for a bikini yet so I have a one piece in black...boring but I only go in it so my poor kids don't miss out on going to the beach.

A cute bathing suit top with a pair of shorts. I like the halter looking tops. Now that my kids have gotten older I cover up more. Kelly take a picture and share so we can see what your sportin this summer ;)

I have a two piece but it is like a tank top on top and then a regular bottom - a bottom that covers everything. LOL I don't like shopping for swimsuits either and I admit I have had mine for I think three years now. LOL But living in WA didn't give me much opportunity to wear it so it's all good.

Not to mention the horrible lights they usually have in the department stores that accentuate all the cellulite and flaws.

I now go to the bathing suit specialty stores because they have decent lighting and way better suits!

My current suit sounds like Tsoniki's.

I can feel what you say about not wanting what you feel like in a suit to spoil your fun. I absolutely love the water and sometimes when we go away, I don't even bring my suit because I don't want to wear it. But when I see everyone else in the water, it drives me crazy. So, now I've decided I just need to do it.

Plus, I'm working on going to the gym at least 4 times per week. It makes me feel a lot better physically and hopefully I'll look better in the suit too!

I dont understand why people think "plus sized" women dont want a pretty suit or even bra :(

I'm being brave and bought one for my big pregnant body. I hope I dont scare all the kids this summer. lol

Pregnant suits are so cute nowadays Nell :)

I don't have a suit right now... when we go to the beach this summer it will probably be a top that covers my "working" mommy boobs (not an easy task, lol!) and a little skirty type of bottom. I actually look better in a two piece because I'm long waisted. Whatever it is it will have to have something that holds in leftover tummy lol!

Plus size suits are the pits. Remember the ones with the skirt built in?? That brings back horrible memories.

I've started to wear one similar to Kari - halter top with shorts on the bottom.

I HATE bathing suits with a passion! And not just because I'm a 'plus size' gal but because I am HUGE on top! Even when I was smaller and in regular sized clothing I could never find a suit that fit my boobs!

Anyways I have a suit but my self consciousness of my 'fat' and impercections causes me to still sit on the beach and just sweat instead of not caring and getting in the water! I spent 2 days at the beach over this Memorial Day weekend and I kept my shorts and teeshirt on because there was nothing but young bikini clad girls around. Suffering from low self-esteem, a beach is not a good place for me - LOL! Hopefully I will just get over it & get in the water!

I bought my suit at Old Navy. It's black but they also have really cute prints - all plus size. I don't know if they have the short bottoms - I don't wear that kind because I'm short and they make my legs look like tree trunks. Anyhow, mine is a takini with normal bottoms and completely covers my belly. It also has a string sinch thing on the sied to give it some character. I've even worn it out in public. :)
