Can't I have a 'Real Summer'?
Sean is half way through the book I assigned to him last week and as I put my foot down (again) about the deadline for getting it finished he pouted and asked 'Can't I have a 'Real Summer'?
What is a Real Summer, Sean?
You know... one without books and learning and stuff!
LOL! We don't "do" summer either. We do slack off a bit, but really... should learning stop in the summer? They spend the first month in school refreshing the kid's memory.
Caleb's first grade teacher sent home a packet of summer 'work' with all the kids. She said that there is no reason that learning should stop during the summer & I have to agree with her:-) Kids lose so much of the learning over the summer if they don't continue to work on the skills that were learnt during the year. I have many library days planned for this summer :-)
My kids don't break up for summer break for another 4 weeks and then they're only off for a little under 5 weeks. I think it's better that way so they don't forget everything they've learned through the year.
