Sibling Separation Anxiety
My youngest two are only 16 months apart. My little girl is 4 and has always been very independent but her 3 year old brother is another story. He's always been quite clingy with me but now he's showing clinginess with his sister and 9 year old brother as well.
The other day when my daughter had a doctor's appointment I tried to drop the little one off at preschool alone (they usually go together) and he cried so much. Usually he enjoys his mornings at preschool and is very happy to go but not without his sister.
I'm really worried because in September his sister starts school and he'll have another year at preschool until he goes to the same school, but they'll never be in the same class again. I feel bad for the poor little guy, he loves his sister and always seems to be in her shadow. On the other hand, I'm quite eager for him to become a little more independent and have his own little circle of friends and activities without always relying in his big sister.
I had a friend in highschool who was in a similar situation with her older sister (one year behind) and she always felt like she was trying to catch up with her big sister. I hope this isn't the case for my little guy.
Has anyone with little ones close in age experienced this? How do you cope?

The boys do this. Sometimes Malcolm is invited to birthday parties in his preschool class and Nathan has to stay behind. Nathan is more upset about not being with his brother than missing the party.
We're getting prepared and trying to separate them a bit more now and then because Malcolm starts kindergarden in September too.
