If You Value Peace & Privacy
Apparently, my neighbor doesn't understand this concept. She has complained about my cat meowing at night (I agree, this is annoying, so I make sure she's in the house at night) and has come to our door to complain about a few other minor noise infractions. And whenever we're in our backyard in the middle of the day or early evening, she slams her windows shut so she doesn't have to hear us. One night, I went out there by myself to very quietly cook some ribs on the barbecue just before 9 PM and again, slam goes the window. Perhaps, the smell was annoying to her.
Anyway, I feel like I've been walking on eggshells. Sure, I shouldn't let her crankiness bother me, but I do value other people's privacy and think people should be able to live in relative peace. So, it bothers me that someone thinks I'm the neighbor from hell...especially, when she's pretty inconsiderate herself.
Even through these complaints she has about us, she has always blasted her music early in the morning, like she's the only one who lives around here. And it's gotten worse in the past few weeks. It's probably party because it's summertime and windows are open...but even if I close my windows, I can still feel the Eagles or some unknown (and irritating) country music vibrating in my house at 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning.
I hate confrontation with neighbors, but this is getting ridiculous.
(For the record, I like the Eagles -- it's the country music that makes me crazy.)

Thanks for making me grateful for my quiet neighborhood :) The only things around here that have ever really bugged me are barking dogs - but thank God they moved away.
I did live in a townhouse for several years before we moved up north and it is a challenge. I'm not a real loud neigbor, but we had wood floors, including the stairway so I was always worrying about bugging my neigbors just by walking around. I did daycare, so there were always children coming and going.
My neighbor got a young boyfriend at one point and he drove me nuts - then got busted (at 2am by about a dozen cops) for having dope (a couple of garbage bags worth). That wasn't fun.
The window slamming is such a witchy thing to do. That would really roast me.
I would probably steam about it and then kill her with kindness by giving her a big plate of fresh baked brownies or cookies or something.
I would just try to ignore it. Some people are never happy but you're doing well to keep the noise down because confrontations with neighbors are no fun.
You shouldn't have to walk on eggshells though. I do think it's the summer weather. Last night I was so annoyed at my neighbors because now you can hear everything with the windows open.
I was just irratable, hot and claustrophobic... she's probably feeling this way too!
And it's not like my kids are super quiet or anything, I think it's just the heat getting to people, LOL.
