Monkeys in the Trees
It was cooler of course - and quieter!
My home office is now on the backside of the house next to the woods. I have several mature trees that the neighborhood children love to play in. Last week I listened as two boys played quietly in the trees. Every so often I would stop and look out to see how high they were. I could just see their bright clothing through the branches and leaves. It's fun to know that they're having fun. I always loved to climb trees when I was a kid and Sean has been all up and down every tree out there.
This evening things changed. Girls from the other side of the subdivision invaded the boys territory. Let the games begin.
The boys climb the trees and shout disparing words down to the girls.
The girls shout derisive terms back up to the boys.
The boys throw objects down at the girls.
The girls scream and laugh.
The boys spit down on the girls.
The girls are just screaming now.
I was tempted to stick my microphone up in the window to capture this entertainment for you but just when I decided to go for it, some other less amused neighbor spoke up from his bad deck yelling, 'For the love of God will you please shut up!?'
The woods grew quiet.
Monkeys know when predators threaten.

LOL!
As I read I was thinking:
"They're practicing for adulthood"
LOL
Today it was four boys between 7 and 9 years of age running around in the yard accross the street with water guns... all screaming at the top of their lungs - for a long, long, long time.
I wasn't in as charitable mood today either... I wondered if they would mind if I pulled out Sean's air soft pistols and joined in.
(Don't tell Sean that... might give him ideas.)
