Positively Amazing Capacity for Organization

If I had to write a recommendation letter for my sixteen year old today, I would have to say that he has a 'positively amazing capacity for organization'.

And then I might have to add 'when it's important to him' :)

If I give him verbal directions that involve more than one task, it's very likely that he'll do one and forget the other and even declare that I never told him to do it in the first place.

Ah! But let him want to go play paintball and his organizational skills rise up out of nowhere.

For his birthday I bought him a group package at Area 51 Paintball, so he gets to take five friends with him for the day for free.

Organizing six teenagers and young adults, determining availability and reliability of vehicles capable of transporting them and the logistics of getting them all picked up, etc is challenging enough.

To make things more interesting, most of the group is meeting for an all night first person shooter fest - involving more transportation, food and beverage planning and parental permission acquisition.

All the while, on his own mind you, he took stock of his current laundry situation and actually did wash a whole day before he would need the clean clothes.

That right there tells me that this kid is destined for greatness.

I think men are usually motivated by things that interest them. If it's something they aren't too into, they're minds go to much...including running mom's errands or doing chores.

My DH is not the most organized person and has the worst sense of time. But he has this uncanny ability to pack a tent or anything else that needs to be folded into a small package. It will look just like when you bought it. I'm sure Heidi can attest to this (as he put up and took her tent down and put it back in the package with amazing ease). If I was to pack up a tent it would be just a lumpy mess of fabric and some poles.

I totally agree with Alice (I think men are usually motivated by things that interest them......)! My son is only 7 but he definitely already shows signs of this...LOL!

I believe Shawn is destined for greatness too ;-)!

LOL! I wouldn't repack the tent at all. Aren't they one use only anyways?

Then my oldest daughter takes after her dad - she's only motivated when things interest her. It's amazing what she can accomplish when she wants to. It's equally puzzling when the simplest things stump her just because her mind is not in it since it's not something she wants to be doing.
