Young People Just Don't Get It
Here's an example: Vermont teens running around naked
Some quotes: "I don't see why it's such a big deal," said Alec McPherson, a recent high school graduate as he sat at a coffee shop table, browsing a thick volume of artwork from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. "Everyone's naked in this book."
Here's a reason: because I don't want your hairy naked butt germs on my seat next time I go to Starbucks. That's why. Naked people in art don't sweat or leave track marks.
"His companion, Jeremiah Compton, a high school junior who plays in a local metal-and-punk band, agreed. "It's just that we're bored and expressing our right," he said. "
Ah... our RIGHT. America is all about our RIGHTS, right?
Sigh.
Are young people really so bored that they can't think of anything better to do? Here's a couple of ideas.
Do something great to make the world a better place.
Unfortunately a lot of teens today have a different take.
Instead of writing the next great American novel, express yourself with multiple tattoos and body piercings.
Instead of moving people with your painting, sculpture, poetry or speech, shock them with public nudity.
Instead of having horns surgically implanted in your forehead, compose something beautiful like Debussy (his horns were natural, by the way).
Give. Serve. Create. It's a much better way of getting attention.
Please teenagers. You can do much better than this.

As a "Natural Mom", I'm surprised by your reaction. Nakedness is our natural state. :-)
My fear is that something terrible will happen to my child and I won't be able to forgive myself for not having prevented it. I grew up with several people close to me who were abused... even though I know rationally that it's almost always a family member, it still bothers me. I'm totally cool with my kids being independent. And I don't let them get away with that asking me to do stuff for them that they're capable of doing.
Weeeeeiiiiird--- it gave my last comment. Strange.
Anyhow, LOL!
I'm a natural mom with high expectations for her teens. ;)
Besides, it's not naked for the sake of naked, it's "cause we got nuthin' better to do". That is what irks me.
They're bored, but honestly, although I never ran around naked as a teenager (or now for that matter) they're probably just doing it for a laugh.
I did some really dumb things and sometimes I can't believe i'm actually the same person I was back then!
it would be lovely if all teenagers were expressing themselves through art or other modes but I doubt it's going to happen... running around nake is probably much more fun at that age. I must say, I hope my kids don't do that!
I totally agree with you. I wonder if our parents felt the same way about our generation growing up?
I see a lot of disrespect and this sense of "things will be handed to me" - why on earth do they think that they can just have (or do)e whatever they want without having to put forth any effort or without facing any consequences. Then if they don't get it they pout or whine or get angry or whatever. Take responsibility!!!
If my kids grow up with that type of attitude it's going to drive me nuts.
