Ahhh, Freedom
Three of the last 4 nights, I've gone into my 18-month-old's room and he's sleeping so peacefully - but one catch...
He's sleeping without his diaper! He's taken it off and he's either laying on top of it or he's tossed it out of the crib.
I'm always shocked when I go in and see him because it's so unexpected. He likes to sleep in the fetal position so his bare rump is perched in the air. And he has the most content look on his face and he's semi-smiling. To me he looks like he's thinking "ahhh, freedom!"
My husband thinks this is a sign he's ready to use the potty. I think he just likes to be free every once in a while.
The two older boys never did this, so this is all new to me. Any clues?

My youngest took his diaper off all the time. He liked the freedom, I think.
But interestingly enough, until recently, he had been wearing a pull-up at night time because of bed wetting. A couple weeks ago, he started taking it off before he fell asleep.
He did it because he said he didn't need it anymore. He was right and is doing great. Of course, he's 3 1/2...but who knows why your little guy is doing it. He is quite young for a boy potty training, but kids are all different.
Is he showing any other signs?
LOL - no clues, but what a site that must be! It's also cute. Who knows maybe he does want to start trying to use the potty.
What a site that must be. As Alice said, all kids are different and 18mos is a bit early for PT'ing so, I would look out for other signs during the day as well.
My son did this at about the same age and I think he just loved the naked feelling. He wasn't ready to start training until just after 2yrs. old. My son is now 7 and as soon as he gets home, he immediately stips out of his clothes and wears as little as possible until bed time... ;)
That is a sign of potty training readiness. In most cultures babies are trained at this age or earlier... without coercion. :)
Try sitting him on the potty and seeing what happens!
Carrie - you may be right. My little guy spent all of Saturday morning bottomless. He was the happiest kid in the house.
I tried sitting him on the potty a couple times and he thought that was cool - but he didn't actually potty. He just sat there and sang.
He definitely seems interested though.
Oh my goodness how funny! Your description of his little rump in the air cracked me up. hehe
