Are Dinosaurs Real?

Over the past few weeks I have been wondering if I should continue to let my children think Dinosaurs are real.

Not only does my six year old believe that dinosaurs are real...he thinks he may run into one at any time in his backyard. He has set up the backyard with elaborate dinosaur traps so that he can protect the family and last night he had a nightmare that three T-Rex dinosaurs actually did invade our home.

So why does he think they are real? I would have to credit the Jurassic Park series of movies which he owns and loves. He also had the opportunity a few weeks ago to go on the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios, California. He expected to see dinosaurs in cages but alas these dinosaurs had "escaped" and we were almost eaten! I should mention though that he wanted to go on this ride a second and third time though.

After we got off the ride he made rounds telling other park visitors that the dinosaurs had escaped from their cages and that they should be careful. It was pretty cute.

I started to worry though that he might start to get teased when he told his school friends about his experience but some of his school friends had their own real life dinosaur encounters to tell too. In fact one of his little friends told him, that his parents had in fact been eaten by a T-Rex and they were dead now. Eeek!

Soooo, now I am concerned that maybe I should have not have let him believe that dinosaurs still exist? What you think? Do your kids believe that dinosaurs are still around?

Yep - my six year old believes dinosaurs are still around - but since he's a Power Ranger (the Red Ranger) he can protect us from all forces of evil!

My Son loves dinosaurs but he knows they are extinct. It actually made for a Great lesson in teaching him about them.

We went to the Drumheiller museum in Calgary, here in Canada this past summer and my son (he's four) learned a bit about the history of dinosaurs and I think it scared him even though he knew they were extinct (I've always told him they are)...

When we got back from the museum he had bad dreams that night too.

Every now and then he'll talk about how the T-Rex is so huge it would be bigger than our house.

Oh and one time he said the T-Rex is named that because it 'wrecks' everything..lol
