Homemade Christmas Gifts

In an attempt to teach my boys about the true meaning of giving at Christmas, I’ll be making my Christmas gifts this year. It’s not to save money, because by the time I’m done I’ll more than likely spend MORE than if I’d just gone shopping.

Now, don’t get me wrong I like to shop, but somehow it loses some meaning at Christmas time. Every year the commercialization of Christmas gets further and further from the true reason of the season, doesn’t it?

When there are Christmas items (gifts, trees, lights, etc.) out before Halloween even comes, it tends to kill the excitement a little more every year. Yes, I like to do my shopping early, but come on, can’t our kids enjoy other holidays too without constantly seeing Christmas decorations in the stores?

I want my boys to experience all that is good about Christmas before they have to start dealing with crazy malls full of people fighting over the hottest new toy and parking spots.

Yeah, I could do the majority of my shopping online, but that just doesn’t get me in the spirit as much as creating gifts with the help of my two little men.

By the way, if you need a few, here are some good Christmas Gift Ideas.

Now that's a great idea.

I would like to do something similar. I love Christmas but the commercialism of it is really getting me down.

Next year i'm thinking of taking the kids for a few days somewhere in Eastern Europe where they can experience a more old-fashioned tradition.

I so strive to teach my boys the true meaning of Christmas. It's really hard sometimes when Daddy is always talking about the lights and the decorations in July! ;)
