What’s Mine is Mine & What’s Yours is Mine too!

I posted this toddler joke on the forum, but loved it so much I thought I’d share it here too. I see it a lot on T-shirts for little ones and get a good chuckle every time.

1. If I like it, it's mine.
2. If it's in my hand, it's mine.
3. If I can take it from you, it's mine.
4. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
5. If it's mine, it must NEVER appear to be yours in anyway.
6. If I'm doing or building something, all the pieces are mine.
7. If it looks just like mine, it is mine.
8. If I saw it first, it's mine.
9. If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.
10. If it's broken, it's yours.

When toddlers reach the point they need to learn sharing, it is common for them to refuse handing their toys over to some other kid without a fight. Remember, in their minds, the world revolves around them. It’s all about the toddlers isn’t it?

Can you blame them really? Think about it, would you want to give up something that you are attached to and has been all yours for months, or years, with no one else trying to lay any type of claim to it, even if it is only for 5 minutes?

How do/did you deal with toddlers who have a hard time letting go and sharing?

I would pay good money for the answer to this question!!

My 18 month old is about to drive me looney tunes!!

His vocabulary is limited but there are two things he can say clear as day - "Mine!!!!" (which is always yelled at the top of his lungs) and "Leave me alone" (again - yelled for all the world to hear).

Some days he has it so bad that you can hear the King Kong music playing in the background as we walks through the house terrorizing his older brothers.

The older boys have just started to let him have whatever he wants - they've already learned he'll be done playing with their prized possession as soon as they find something else to play with.

Awww - the toddler years!

I say wait it out. Toddlers are too young to be expected to share, imo. As adults, we've figured out that sharing means good things... we get stuff in return sometimes, or at least good feelings. Kids figure this out soon enough.
