My First Christmas Story of theYear
I tried and tried, but he just wouldn't do it and I wasn't going to make him do it. He didn't want to and I could tell he was so afraid he was going to disappoint me by not singing with me but at the same time he was scared to death. As a matter of fact, he even told me he didn't want to disappoint me.
I still didn't make him because I know what it's like to be put on the spot when you are really scared to do something. I realize that sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do it anyway, but he's only 9 so I'm not pushing for something like this. If it was school work, it would be a different story.
So, on to the point of this bit of a rambling post. About 10 minutes after the conversation of singing with Mom was over we had the following conversation:
Zach: Hey Moomy (that's what he calls me), guess what book I got in library today?
Me: What book would that be?
Zach: I'll give you a hint, it starts with an R and has to do with Christmas.
Me: Hmmm, let me see (I have to make him think I'm really stumped for a minute). Is it Rudolph?
Zach: Well yeah, that's part of the title. Do you know the rest?
Me: Rudolph....The Red Nosed Reindeer??
Zach: Yep! Want me to read it to you?
Me: (Loving the fact that he wants to read again after a few months of not being interested in the least)Definitely...when do you want to read? Do you want me to read some of it with you?
Zach: Nope, I got it Mom. Can I read it now?
Me: Absolutely! (I still have to hide the fact that I want to jump up and down because he wants to read to me instead of me reading to him and him half paying attention.)
I then was not only read Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer but got to see the pictures too! ;) That my fellow Mamas is one of the little things that may not seem like anything special to someone else, but to me means the world!
It's amazing to see that my child understands that disappointing (although I wasn't really disappointed) someone can be remedied by doing another good deed for them, especially when it's one that he knows will make me happy and won't be scary for him in the process. Am I wrong to see it as he is learning how to turn a situation around so that it becomes a win-win for everyone involved?

Sweetie pie! Did you get the song done all by yourself, though?
Today, I was in the mall with my kids, my friend (Heidi...our silent contributor) and her kids and it was weird...we all suddenly started singing that very song and we did the whole thing, loud in the mall as we walked it was fun.
But I'm guessing you were trying to record the earlier singing. My kids would get stage-fright over that for sure. However, yelling in the mall, that's no problem.ht
Yeah I did the song all by myself, but it wasn't Rudolph! LOL
That's too cute and sounds like something I would do in the mall. However, hubby and my son would probably run off and act like they didn't know me! :) Very shy bunch I have.
