Enough Already with the Dry Skin and Colds
I know a lot of the problem is caused by not just the dry winter air, but the fact that you spend more time indoors where it’s all closed up and the heat in the house is pretty dry too. Since things are all closed up there’s no where for the germs that creep in from school and outdoor ventures to go. Reeks havoc on the nose and throat that’s for sure.
It doesn’t help our skin any either. My whole family suffers from dry and sometimes painful skin and when it isn’t raining here in the winter it gets pretty dry and our skin takes the blunt of it.
I’ve been doing a bit of research lately on how humidity decrease in the air affects the body. I’m considering the use of a humidifier (sure would save us in the long run vs. all the moisturizers we buy). If we get one it will help put some moisture back into the air that the heat is taking out this time of year.
I didn’t realize there were so many different types of humidifiers available. You can choose between a whole house and single room humidifier. Shows you how much I know. I thought they were all pretty small and plastic and you just moved them to the room you were in as needed. According to HumidifierInformation.com, a whole house unit like the Aprilaire Humidifier is actually installed as part of your central heating system.
I’ve also found that some humidifiers come with a lot of cool features like auto shut off, units combined with dehumidifiers, and variable speeds. I could use one with an automatic shut off when it’s empty, because I would be horrible about remembering to keep an eye on the water levels and would probably ruin the unit rather quickly by letting it run dry. :( I think the dehumidifier would be a good thing too, considering the amount of rain we get where we live.
