Student's documentary on Race has people stunned

WOW, this is just why I am sure to expose my children to all cultures and treat people just as I would want to be treated.

I am not sure if you all have seen this yet but this just hurts my heart.

Kiri Davis is a young filmmaker whose high school documentary has left audiences at film festivals across the country stunned -- and has re-ignited a powerful debate over race.

What, if any are your thoughts?

That makes me want to cry... but I'm not surprised. My Mom owned a doll store for awhile and stocked dolls of all colors, and she used to remark how black girls would come in to the store and play with and purchase the white dolls. :(

I don't know what to attribute it to, but it just seems very sad.

I'm not surprised. They did a similar study here not long ago with the same results. Instead of dolls they showed the kids pictures of people and without a doubt most of the children (black, white, indian) chose the white people as being "nicer"

On Big Brother here there's a big race debate going on because an Indian Bollywood actress is being bullied and racist remarks being made against her.

You watch these other young celebrities on screen saying these things behind her back and you think... gosh you're supposed to be more worldy and educated than that, come on it's 2007 for gods sake.

WOW, that is a Very Interesting film study! Somewhat amazing results here and other scientific Controlled Studies should be done with this issue. There could be variables which are unknown to us here and the study should be repeated by different researchers using scientific controls.
ie:Were All Appropriate cuts of film used in this piece or just Selective cuts? Was the method of presentation of the dolls done in nonbias ways for the filming?
Was the purpose of the film scientific information or preconceived impact?
I'm NOT supposing I KNOW the answers to these questions, but I'm just asking the questions.

Wow - very interesting. I would be curious to see what local kids in Hawaii would say - especially if you threw in a brown doll to the mix (one between the two).

Now that I think about it, I'd bet my youngest daughter would choose the light colored doll with pretty blue eyes.
