Do you ever pack a lunch for your kids?
Well, my 9 year old does both - we have a copy of the monthly menu from the cafeteria and he encircles the foods he likes - then, I make sure to send him lunch money on days that he likes to eat "Hot lunch" or lunch from the cafeteria. On the days he doesn't care for the foods served in school, I pack him a lunch - usually it is a sandwich and fruit.
Lately though, he has asked me to stop packing him an apple. Curious, I asked him why and he said that the "Yard Duty" people in school say that they can't bring whole apples to school anymore because it can be used as a "weapon". Can you believe that? Apparently, when kids get rowdy ... they throw apples on other kid's heads - thus making the fruit a "weapon". My son claims to have seen other kids throw food on to other kids - of course these kids get called into the principal's office. So now ... we cut up the fruit and peel the fruit before it gets packed for lunch.
