Transcription Difference

We’ve had many people ask about the difference between two of our Mom’s Talk Biz guides. They want to know the difference between transcription and medical transcription.

Medical transcription, also known as medical coding, is done by typing up detailed recorded medical reports. The service can be done for doctors, hospitals, and medical billing companies. In order to perform medical transcription services you must know medical terms and go through training. Because of the need for training and medical knowledge, you can easily command more money as a medical transcriptionist than a general transcriptionist.

General transcription is taking an audio recording and converting it into typed form. Some common items that can be transcribed are interviews, radio shows, data lists, and seminars. Transcription services can be a stand alone service or done along side other services. Many virtual assistants offer transcription as part of their services.

If you’re thinking about starting a transcription or medical transcription business, you can find detailed guides telling you for both at MomsTalkBiz.com.

Actually, I always associated "medical coding" with billing. Knowing the codes to fill out on the forms to send in to the insurance companies for payment.

Another reason you can command more of a salary with medical transcription is because you are dealing with confidential information and also because medical notes can become legal documents so accuracy is very important.
