Discipline For My Teenage Daughter

My daughter required some discipline over the weekend. And time out these days for a 14 year old doesn't work. That would be too fun to be stuck in her bedroom.

So I had to get creative and I don't think she'll ever forget it!

You see, our fish died, his name was "Freddy Spagetti." My 5 year old was devistated, she loved that fish. She always wanted to feed it, and I believe I'm the one that killed it. :-( I sprayed some Fantastic spray on the kitchen counter where Freddy Spagetti once resided.

Anyhow, since Freddy Spagetti has passed on and I didn't want to deal with it, I had a light bulb moment! Victoria can do it!

So there she was peering over the small little tank with our dead Freddy Spagetti, cringing on how she was going to get this done. So after a half hour of her half laughing and in complete disbelief that I was making her do this, I had to motivate her.

I told her I was going to get him out of the tank and chase her with him if she didn't put him into the toilet. So with that, she got it done. You should've seen it, it was SO funny. I was laughing so hard!

When he reached his final resting place, my youngest cried. With tears streaming down her face I realized how important this fish was to her. But at the same time I was chuckling because Victoria had met her discipline match.

How about you, how creative have you gotten with discipline?

When my kids were little - their time out was to stand in the corner - but even if they were standing in the corner, it didn't stop them from touching things they are not suppose to touch ... so, I modified the standing in the corner to - "Standing in the Corner - McDonald style" - they would put both hands up - touching their head - with their hands like the McD's golden arch - since then, they took me more seriously and they tried their very best not to get introuble.
