Marketing to Kids

I’ve been seeing the previews for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and it has a PG rating with the warning of “Inappropriate for Young Children” found on many movie information sites.

The original comic book was pretty violent too, but then they started the TV show and released the toys that were appealing to younger children. I can live with the TV shows and the toys, but what really gets my goat is when they come out with a movie that is not appropriate for younger children, yet McDonald’s gets on board and throws the toys into the Happy Meals which are for YOUNG CHILDREN.

How about you, what do you think about the marketing tactics that are used at times to promote movies, music and video games to a younger crowd that shouldn’t even be watching, listening or playing them in the first place?

And sigh…be on the lookout for Spiderman toys at Burger King later this year. Certainly Spiderman 3 will carry at least the PG-13 rating the 2nd movie had, yet they’ll think it’s okay to peddle their movie toys to the little ones.
