Earth Day Reading & Learning

This Sunday is Earth Day and a great way to teach your child about the holiday is to read to them. Here are a few age specific books I thought you might enjoy. Reading together is a wonderful way to help your children prepare for the future, but add teaching them the importance of taking care of our plant at the same time and you’re sure to have some fun and spark a few ideas of your own.

Pre-school to 1st grade “I Love Our Earth” is a great read-aloud, picture book. I Love Our Earth

“Earth Day Hooray!” is a tale of three friends who want to help clean up a neighborhood park. In order to pay for the flowers and plants, the children need to find a way to raise the money and they choose to continue their Earth friendly efforts by holding an aluminum can drive. Great for children ages 6-9. Earth Day Hooray!

Teaching children the benefits of recycling is the goal of “Recycle - A Handbook for Kids.” Geared toward children ages 8-10, this book uses cartoon illustrations along with text to teach children how fun and necessary recycling is. Recycle - A Handbook for Kids

For older children still in grade school, “Let’s Get Ready for Earth Day”, tells one young boy’s story about what his class does in order to get ready for the holiday. Let's Get Ready for Earth Day

Our teen has been volunteering for the local Audobon chapter for a few months. This has been one of his favorite projects. They clean and clear the wetlands.
