Why Do We Glorify These People?

I just can't get over how much people turn to pop stars, actors, athletes and glorify them. It really makes me sick inside when I see this happening. Like today, I came online to see how Avril Lavigne just purchased a 9.5 Million Dollar Home in LA.

I get that people are successful, but the girl sings! How do these stars get paid so much money? Why? I realize that there is just tons of money spent on her music, but it seems so frivilous to me.

It's like the hockey player here that gets paid hoards of money to do what? Play hockey? Maybe I'm just jealous, but it doesn't make sense to me.

Oh well, it's a rant and I gather I'm just annoyed by it all today.

Well, if the record company sold X number of records, don't you think the artist deserves a big chunk of that? Who should get the money?

You said it's "frivolous", but what is frivilous? Buying a CD? Come on, Vera...I'm sure you've purchased a CD or two in your time. ;-)

I'm not sure I get the "glorify" either. Are you talking about appreciating their music or talent...or being obsessed with which homes they're buying?

Hockey is big business...shouldn't those doing the grunt work get paid for all the cash coming in?

I don't know about Avril, but a lot of people and companies who make the big bucks do a lot to give their money and time to worthwhile causes. I think that's AWESOME.

Well, I heard it said once that how much money we make is a reflection of how many lives we've touched. That's why it doesn't bother me one little bit that Jim Carrey earned $10 Million for one flick. How many millions of people laugh when they see his movies?

I understand what you're saying about materialism and I often think if I was that well off I would still live simply. I like Ed Begley Jr for that reason.

LOL...I know whose life Carrie is "touching" with his flicks.

Oops...sorry, nothing. I didn't say that. :-)

Oh my goodness, that is the biggest Freudian slip EVER!

I meant to say "Carrey" and not "Carrie".

Clear throat and moves on...

I find it funny that the news will report on house purchases. I don't think it's news worthy.
