First Football Practice
My sons are having their first football practice tonight. I can't believe I've let my husband talk me into letting them play. My 7-year-old is playing tackle football and the 5-year-old is playing flag football.
What am I going to do when a kid (all in the name of football) knocks one of my precious little guys over? I'll be in tears - but my husband made me promise not to shout "Get off of him you big meanie!!" I don't want to get banned from the league....
This is Texas - so even peewee football is serious - can you believe that my boys have practice 3 times a week for an hour and 45 minutes? That just seems like over kill for little kids. They are cutting back to 2 practices per week when school starts though.
Anyway, I'll be there tonight with my camera taking pictures to document the whole experience.
Anyone have any tips for letting boys be boys? I'm so nervous. Oh, woe is me!

Thank goodness, football isn't such a serious sport here north of the border.
Only problem is, that hockey is a big deal here and I am NOT up for 5 AM practices...so we're working on an alternative. ;-)
Frank would be happy if Josh played hockey rather than football, but football would be ok, too. I want him to play baseball or hockey. I HATE football -I was in marching band for eight years of my life and still can't follow the game beyond "touch down equals play the fight song" LOL
I don't know if our daughter will get interested in any sports or not. Right now, she's just learning to swim.
I'm sure I'll be just like you! Here the peewee football teams practice 4 days a week. They practice 2 1/2 hours a day, but have to give water breaks every half an hour or something like that. Then after Labor Day they cut back to 2 hours per day. Does that make you feel any better?
LOL - I hope your boys have fun and I hope it's not too stressful for you. Can't wait to see pictures!
My 7 year old was dying to play football this year, and same thing - they totaly suit up and play tackle football. I wouldn't let him do it. My husband thought we should let him try, but I think he needs to wait a bit longer - I have heard so many stories of the injuries that come from those games - I just couldn't bring myself to do it....He's played basketball, soccer, t-ball, and swimming, but I'm just not ready for this one!
