For Moms of Young Kids
This week, they’re making their own peanut butter sandwiches and even pouring their own glasses of milk. They’ve also learned to wipe up the crumbs better than their Daddy ever does! This week, my youngest has taken to moving the clothes from the washing machine to the dryer and turning it on.
It saves this lazy mama from getting up from the couch in her usual afternoon burnout. How do you give your little one’s independence?

Aww that is great Alice!! What a way to foster great independence in your kids and I bet they take PRIDE in those sandwiches :)
Amen Alice! I totally agree. Mine are trained to help themselves to a snack (there's only healthy stuff around so it doesn't matter what they pick) and to clean up messes too.
It does take more work on the "front end" of the equation, but the back end is nice.
My friend still has her DVD player up high and always changes the movies. I understand wanting to protect the DVDs, but there are always burned back ups you can give to your kids. My kids have access to their shows and know how to turn them on, pause, etc. They also know when Mama says that's enough, they can turn it off!
We actually just a VCR on the past couple weeks (a blast from the past) because the library has a bunch of shows they wanted to borrow. Now they can operate the VCR too, which surprisingly, is a little more complicated than a DVD player. :-)
That's great. My kids make their own breakfast and can make their own lunch too, help themselves to snacks. Although I usually tend to make lunch.
They also get dressed on their own and choose their own clothes (not always a great idea with my 4 year old!)
I think it's great to raise independent kids.
