Toddler’s Learning to Ski
As I was preparing some information for Baby And Toddlerville, I saw a lot of information about teaching toddlers to ski. I know back in the day, when I would go skiing, I did see quite a few little ones, but not having children myself at the time, I didn’t think much of it. I found this rather interesting because honestly the thought of teaching my own boys (6 and 4), let alone a two or three year old, to ski is something that would freak me out. I’d be too afraid of what might happen due to the fact that children at that age are extremely curious, not to mention have no sense of reality and tend to think they are invincible…and they’re terribly clumsy. I certainly am not saying toddlers shouldn’t learn how to ski, but I think we’ll stick to snowball fights and building snowmen in the yard for a few more years. :-)
So, how about you? Would you teach your toddler to ski the slopes at such a young age?

I have friends who have gone skiing with their children from very, very young ages.
Personally, I think mine are still too young and since skiing holidays tend to be so expensive i'm going to wait till my youngest is 6 or 7 before we go.
Anything earlier is just too stressful for me!
Great blog!
I just stumbled on your site by googling "toddler ski aids"--I'm starting to do some research for teaching my 2-year-old to ski this winter. I actually just started writing a blog about it only last month. I'm at the point where I have a lot of enthusiasm b/c we haven't started the actual process just yet. We'll see how I feel about it in a few months :-)
I started my daughter when she was 3. It wasn't easy but she's very coachable and mature so after the first couple of times it wasn't too bad. She was doing blues by the time she was 4. This winter will be her 3rd year. My 4 year old son will be going for the first time tomorrow. Even though he's older than his sister was when she first started I don't think he has the drive and maturity yet but I'm giving it a shot anyway. My wife doesn't ski so it' will be a bit tougher. Fingers crossed.
