Housework for Mental Health

I've been distracted the past few months and had fallen off of my regular cleaning routines.

I guess with spring I've been coming around and getting back to them.

My daughter even remarked at how things have been going more smoothly lately, maybe because things have been more organized and cleaner around here. Amen to that!

This morning, after spending an hour or so frustrated at the computer because I couldn't get in to an account that I needed to work with, I decided to get off the computer and get my BOOST circuit done (that's what I call it).

I immediately felt calm and realized that much of my stress is because I don't do the "first things first" tasks, (I had been trying to squeak the computer task in) looking after our home base being one of them, my own health was the other one, although I've made great strides with it lately.

And because there is just something therapeutic about having things in order, and putting them that way - as long as we are not overwhelmed or rushed.

This is a big benefit to doing it with a set routine and schedule - I find that I feel that I am doing exactly what I need to be doing instead of being pulled in 14 other directions.

And inevitably, the day goes smoother when it is finished.

When do you prefer to do your housework routine? AM or evening? Or do you mix it up between them? Or do you just peck at it when you can? How does it work for you?

I do it in little quick blasts through the day. After breakfast it's clean the kitchen, feed animals, unload dishwasher, start laundry.

Then after lunch it's clean the kitchen, fold or put away laundry, vacuum or whatever.

Then after dinner it's clean the kitchen, sweep the floor... collapse into bed. LOL
