OG Style: Juan “OG” Perez

OG Juan Perez was born in Harlem. He met Jay Z in the year of 1996 and they instantly connected. They both shared a passion for sports and this would be the foundation for their joint business ventures beginning in 2003. Together they opened a string of sports bars throughout New York City. The first of these clubs was the 40/40 club. What started in New York City would grow over the next decade with several more openings in Las Vegas, Brooklyn, Atlantic City and Atlanta.

During Juan Perez’s 50th birthday, Jay Z reportedly spent over $100,000 for the two day celebration. This hefty tab included $13,000 on dinner, $9000 on drinks and a whopping $91,000 overall at the night club. Sources close to him say the night began in midtown with lobster and steak dinners followed by a restaurant-nightclub located in Inwood. To end the night Perez, Jay Z and a group of close friends made their way to Playroom Nightclub. Here they partied until the morning time accumulating over 40 bottles of Ace of Spades champagne. This night club was The most expensive part of birthday bash.

The tab of the champagne totaled $74,000 and with tax plus gratuity summed it up to $91,005 total. A hostess took a picture of the receipt and posted it on Snapchat, it quickly went viral. A generous team, they not only enjoyed the bottle service for themselves but shared with numerous other tables in the nightclub. OG Juan Perez and Jay Z have a business relationship more than 20 years old. Their bond over music and sports has propelled them in all of their business ventures.

Their Roc Nation Sports endeavors has been one of the most lucrative and successful overall. With a roster of high profile athletes they continue to make their mark in sports and in business. Combining entertainment and sports was a major move for the two. These two pillars have stood separate for a long time but no businessmen had ever joined the two, an innovative more for sure. Their approach with their sports agency is the same as their approach with music. They aim to elevate athlete’s careers on a global level on and off the field.

Chainsmokers: New Era & New Sound

Some people say that music is in a good place right now, but others tend to say the complete opposite. If you’re more of a fan for going out and purchasing your music from a physical location, then you’re probably nostalgic of the past era. For those who want to acquire as much music as possible from online websites, this new era is definitely your domain. Though the market is flooded with copious amounts of songs and artists, much of this new music isn’t too good. There are some exceptions to the rule and The Chainsmokers demonstrates this notion perfectly.

The Chainsmokers isn’t your standard band. This is a production duo of two individuals that crossed paths just a few years ago. Alex Pall, a former-practicing disc jockey, worked at an art gallery in Manhattan. Drew Taggart was a student at Syracuse University. Adam Alpert, a manager in the music business, introduced the two individuals because there was an opening for a spot in an up-and-coming band. Once the two individuals got together in 2012, they began their professional music career by producing remixes. The Chainsmokers was now formed, but what direction would it go in? Since the group had a wide range of styles, it couldn’t be classified in one specific genre. The Duo “dibbed and dabbed” in pop, in hip hop and in indie.

Fast-forward to today and The Chainsmokers have a ton of hits under their belt. Dance tracks and up-tempo tunes were their specialty, which helped the band accrue a number of hits like “Selfie,” “Roses” and “Don’t Let Me Down.” For 2018, this dynamic duo has switched its game plan by introducing a darker style of music. The new track, “Sick Boy,” is the duo’s first track in about nine months, and it’s causing a stir. This song perfectly matches the tone of American society, which is why so many people can relate to it. The label gives the duo free-range for creating. In a sense, you can become a product of your environment and this hot, new song epitomizes it to the fullest.

Alex Pall Goes From Part-Time DJ To Global Superstar

At almost every award show inworld The Chainsmokers are either performing or nominated for a prize for their impressive list of hits in the electronic music genre. What sets the duo apart from many of their contemporaries is the fact these two DJ’s are known for their appearance and impressive style as they are for their music in a sector of the music industry usually reserved for those who are rarely seen by their fans.

Since the late 1980s and early 1990s the superstar DJ has been employed and adored by their fans but rarely steps out from behind the DJ booth leaving the guest performers on recordings to complete the majority of the publicity for any release. When Andrew Taggart made his way from Maine to New York to join Alex Pall as one of The Chainsmokers, the DJ duo made the decision to step out and become performers in their own right.

Alex Pall began his career as The Chainsmokers prior to the arrival of Andrew Taggart in New York and was already well-known in New York as a DJ who had an impressive sense of style and marketing before the current incarnation of The Chainsmokers was established. The creative partnership between Pall and Taggart was so impressive that it inspired Pall to quit his day job and work full-time on music and developing the marketing aspects of the band; Pall himself credits Taggart with being a musical genius who allows his DJ partner to create the distinctive style of the brand for marketing purposes.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the growth of The Chainsmokers has been the willingness of both Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart to explore the chances on offer for them to extend their musical abilities beyond those usually expected of DJ’s. Not only have the duo entered the writer’s room and played a role in the development of the majority of their most famous songs but they have also been willing to provide vocals for their recordings which have only added to their position as one of the most creative and important acts of the 21st-century.
